Time capsule: Rolex Submariner 5513 Brown - Gilt - Spider Dial | 1966 (1/66) | 1.39x.xxx serial | 1520 Cal

For real vintage freaks:

Discover a piece of watch history - the Rolex Submariner 5513 from 1966. With its serial number 1.392.xxx and the rare deep brown Gilt Spider Dial, which has taken on an impressive brown colour over the years, this watch is a collector's dream.

Unique origin story:

This watch has a story as extraordinary as its appearance. Purchased by a marine in the Caribbean, it originally served as a diver's watch. When this marine was unable to pay his bill of $50 in a bar one evening, a Swedish visitor helped him out in the bar, settled his bill and received his watch. He wore the watch for many years. When his son (the seller) received the watch as a 25th birthday present, he only wore it briefly and left it in his gun cabinet a short time later for fear that something might happen to the expensive watch. The strap that was attached to the watch did not make it to us, as the condition was unfortunately too poor.

Despite the lack of further documentation, a picture of the original owner from the early 1970s lends this timepiece a fascinating provenance.

Condition and craftsmanship:

Case: The securely polished case retains its structure and, if desired, provides the perfect basis for a possible professional restoration.

Movement: At the heart of the watch beats the robust calibre 1520, renowned for its reliability. Old service engravings and fuchsia-red ratchet wheels & a balance wheel with only 2 legs and without the outer screws that serve as weights bear witness to previous maintenance, allowing a glimpse into the past of the movement's art.

Dial: Depending on the incidence of light, the dial displays fascinating shades of brown - from light brown in direct sunlight to deep brown at dusk. The unique spider effect and perfectly preserved zinc sulphide luminous dots with a warm vanilla patina make the dial a true work of art.

Special features:

Hands: The hands, which appear darker and may have been worked on earlier, blend seamlessly into the overall picture. Their colour provides an interesting contrast to the dial.
Crown: For the sake of completeness, we would like to point out the service crown, which was later replaced - even if this is only a small side issue, we would like to mention it.

An opportunity for vintage lovers:

We have decided to leave this rare beauty untouched in order to place it in the hands of someone who shares a love of vintage. This Rolex Submariner 5513 is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own and preserve a unique piece of history. A perfect addition to any collection that captures the essence of the vintage spirit.

Seize the opportunity to own a unique piece that not only measures time, but also the stories of past adventures.
